Civil War Reenactment July 2016

We were about to study the Civil War, so we went to a reenactment close by. The day was so boiling hot, and all those poor re-enacters were in wool uniforms and layers upon layers of skirts!

The weapons guy was probably the best person we talked to who made things interesting. He had a lot of passion. The actual reenactment was incredibly loud and smoky as well. You could just see how awful a battlefield would become... marching in formation towards the enemy that you might not see through the smoke, getting hit and with infection probably means your death. The volunteers who went to the wounded of either side would really take their own lives into danger. What brave men and women!
The kids all practiced marching with wooden rifles

These lovely ladies posed with our girls!
President and Mrs Lincoln and they thought some other kids were part of our "school" group so they pulled them in for the photo. Mr. Lincoln, I didn't know you did bunny ears!
 The cannons were soooo noisy!
There were infantry, calvary, and even some "navy"
leg wound surgery--pulling a bullet out
Even the sheep was patriotic (you could pick that hat to make it a Confederate or Union sheep)
Weapons display--guns and swords and we even got to hold them and also take a lead bullet home!!
